Singapore – Italian Call for all the unconventional design lovers based in the little red dot: “if you have an idea do it, or somebody else will”. On the occasion of the Italian Design Day (1 March 2018), the radical Milanese architect will discuss at the National Design Centre critical tranformations in designers’culture. Italo Rota, born in 1953 in Milan and graduated in Architecture from the Milan Polytechnic, projected museum installations and the renowned Maison Cavalli (showroom cafés in Miami, Milan and Moscow). He is an eclectic personality of the contemporary architecture and one of the most charming Italian architects and designers, famous for his experimentation in the field of setting: he conceives surprising devices and temporarily structures of extraordinary effectiveness, he creates scenery and magical ambiences that go with exhibitions and events. Distinctive features of Studio Rota & Partners are the richness of forms, colours, materials. This accumulation of means – including the characteristic using of light, curvatures, bold bent lines – gives the designs the impression of multidimensionality, merging of spaces, movement. Interiors, objects, everyday items appear to be incredibly vivid and full of life.
Un appuntamento imperidibile per i design lovers che vivono nel little red dot asiatico. Giovedì 1 Marzo 2018, presso il National Design Centre (Auditorium, Level 2, 111 Middle Road, Singapore 188969), dalle 14 alle 16 l’architetto Italo Rota parlerà di ‘sustainable design’ e presenterà la sua visione sulle trasformazioni in atto nella disciplina dell’architettura. Si tratta di un evento gratuito, che celebra l’Italian Design Day, aperto a tutti previa registrazione via e-mail, e di sicuro interesse anche per i non addetti ai lavori.
Designer e teorico, Italo Rota non è soltanto un architetto di fama internazionale ma anche una personalità poliedrica il cui lavoro spazia dall’urbanistica alla scenografia, da allestimenti temporanei all’attività didattica in tutte le principali scuole di architettura italiane.
Tra le sue opere più rappresentative troviamo il progetto di allestimento del Musée d’Orsay a Parigi con Gae Aulenti e Casa Italiana alla Columbia University di New York, mentre lavori più recenti includono il Museo del 900 e il ristorante Just Cavalli a Milano.
